Colonel Humphreys presents his most respectful Compliments to His Excellency Dr. Franklin and requests his acceptance of the enclosed Poem he hopes its moral and political tendency may in some measure apologize for its defects. Col. H would have transmitted a copy to Mr. Franklin the Younger, but for troubling the Gentleman to whose charge this is committed, with too large a Packet, he begs his compliments with this apology may be presented to Mr. Franklin. Colonel H. leaves this City (where he has been nearly three months) for Paris in two or three days, and perhaps will embark from thence for America in the Spring. Wherever he may be, he will never forget the civilities he has received from Doctr. Franklin, nor cease to testify the veneration he entertains for so illustrious a character.
