The Duc de la Rochefoucauld has not yet had time to translate the letter from Amicus; and besides he does not have the necessary knowledge of banking to be sure of translating it well. If then Monsieur Franklin sees fit to publish it in French, the Duc de la Rochefoucauld will gladly pass it along to the Editor of the Journal who understands these matters.
However, he will take the liberty of noting that the principles of this work do not seem very sound, but it is a matter upon which he feels too inadequate to pass judgement. He will content himself with attaching a note from M. Turgot, which he asks Monsieur Franklin to return to him.
He also asks Monsieur Franklin to please tell him if it is true that New-Yorck has been taken; he hopes that Messieurs Franklin and M. Deane will not forget their engagement at the Hotel de la Rochefoucauld for Monday the 16th.
