To Louis-Guillaume Otto (unpublished)
Philada Decr. 10. 1786
Sir,

Immediately on the receipt of the Letter you did me the honor of writing to me the 22d past, respecting the sieur De Brassine, I laid the same with a Translation before the Council, who having first obtained from the Prison-Keeper, an Account of the Suits on which he was confined, though fit to require the Opinion of the Judges on the Case, which was not obtained ’till Yesterday, or I should have answer’d you sooner. I inclose Copies of both of those Pieces. It is understood that the first fourth and fifth of the Suits against him are satisfied, the second and third not. We have a law in favor of Insolvent Debtors who deliver up their whole Estate upon Oath to their Creditors, be which he might long since have been liberated; but he has not chosen to make use of it. There is now no obstacle to his being deliver’d up agreable to your Demand, but the said two Suits. With great Respect, I am Sir, Your most obedient humble Servant (signed)
