I received yours, complaining of Imperfections in the Long Primer Fount, which surpriz’d me much, because I knew it had been cast compleat. However, after a good deal of Trouble in searching, we found another Box, which I now send by the New York Packet, Capt. Morgan, who sails to-morrow, and I hope you will find in it all that was wanting of that Fount. We have also a Page of some other Founts belonging to you, which could not be got into this Box; and as you proposed to send me a List of the Imperfections in a few Days, I may possibly have more to look for, and to forward with this Page by a future Opportunity.
Benjamin will make new Puncheons, and cast for you some Petit Text Capital W.s as soon as we can get the Foundery in Order, and the same for the other Founts. You will also have sh.’s but the sk’s are so seldom us’d, that when wanted, by cutting off a little of the Top of the k, so as to let the Dot of the s come over it, the want is supply’d without much Inconvenience; or a round s may be us’d; which by the way begins to be the Mode, and in nice Printing the Long f is rejected intirely.
I have received three or four Packets of your Papers.
You will let me know what Number of e’s you want of the Petite Text Italic Lower Case. But possibly you have found them, or may find them; for often in opening new Founts, I have imagin’d Imperfections and afterwards found what I thought missing. I wish you all possible Success in your Business, being your assured Friend and Humble Servant
