From William Nixon (unpublished)
Honoured Sir

Your kind intentions of rendering me an essential service, by the honour of your unsolicited recommendation to General Wayne, were answered, as far as the most zealous endeavours of his friendship possibly could, he spared no pains and missed no opportunity to do me every good office in his power. He unasked laid your letter before the legislature, and the due respect paid to it compensates, in some measure, for the want of immediate success. The Governor, and, indeed, every other gentleman has paid the proper respect to his application in my favour, and there remains scarcely the shadow of any doubt of his being successful. I have the honour to be, with the profoundest gratitude, your obliged and humble Servant

William Nixon
