From Francis Childs (unpublished)
New York Dec. 31. 1786.
Dear Sir,

Excuse the freedom I take in commending to your good Offices, a Gentleman of great Literary accomplishments, John O’Connor, Esqr, who will hand you this. He is at present in your City for the purpose of soliciting Subscriptions for a Book Printing by me, the Anecdotes of Louis XVIth the present King of France, a work of real merit, and for which it is indebted to the Superior Genius and great abilities of Mr. O’Connor. It has been approved of in this place by above 600 Subscribers. It will be no inconsiderable addition to his success in Philadelphia, that he shall experience the notice and condescension of so truly great and respectable a Character as the one I have now the honor to address.

Permit me to Congratulate you on the renewal of another Year; and to hope I may enjoy many opportunities of making the same pleasing Compliment. With the most profound Respect, I have the honor to be, Dear Sir, Your very humble Servant

Francis Childs

His Excellency Dr. Franklin.
Addressed: His Excellency / Dr. Benjamin Franklin / Gov. of Pennsylvania / Philadelphia / John O’Connor, Esq.
