To Francis Childs (unpublished)
Philada April 27. 1789.
Sir,

You wrote to me in December last, that as soon as you return’d from attending the Assembly, you would immediately set out for Philadelphia in order to make a final Settlement of our Accounts: This was a Promise very agreable to me, as my late heavy Expence in building five Houses (which cost much more than I was made to expect) has so exhausted my Finances, that I am now in real and great Want of Money. I therefore send by my Son Bache your Bond which you were to discharge in January last. And I hope and entreat that as I have shown my self willing and ready to serve you, you will now in return exert yourself to serve me by paying off the Debt, at a time when I so much want it, which will exceedingly oblige Your Friend and humble Servant

B Franklin

Mr Bache on Payment will deliver up the Bond, and give you in my Behalf any Discharge you may think proper, which shall be as good as if given by me.

BF.
