To Francis Childs (unpublished)
Philada. June 18. 1786
Sir,

I received yours of May 26. with the two Boxes of St. Augustin. Benjamin was ill at the time, which occasion’d our missing the Opportunity of sending the Philosophie by the Return of Capt. Hyde. It is however now shipt, as you will see by the enclos’d Receipt, on board the Mermaid, and I hope will get safe to hand. The Weight, with the Boxes is 450 lb. The Weight of the St. Augustin which you return’d, is 322 lb. with the Boxes. Supposing the Boxes nearly to ballance each other, we may so find the Difference in this Exchange, deduct 322 lb at 1/10 from 450 lb at 2/. as thus £

450 at 2/ is£45.0.0.
322 at 1/10 is29.10.4
Ballance£15:98

In No 9 of the Boxes you formerly had were 5 Pages of Philos. romain. In No 10 of Ditto were Spaces and Quadrats of Ditto. In No 14 of Ditto were three Pages of Quadrats of Ditto

The Weight of these together ought to be 71 lb french, the whole Fount being 521. I wish you had weigh’d, or would still weigh all the Founts you receiv’d from me, and that I had the exact Account. I am Yours &c

B Franklin

I have also rec’d yours of June 2d. and will consider what you write about the    , and will write hereafter on that Subject.
Mr Childs.
