To Daniel Roberdeau (unpublished)
Philada. Jan 1. 1786.
Dear Sir,

I received your Friendly Letter of the 1st ulto. and am much obliged by your kind Congratulations on my Arrival here, &c. I shall be happy if it produces in any degree the good Effects you hope from it: but this Country has been divided by Parties ever since I knew it, and seems likely to continue so. It would have been a Pleasure to me to have found you here among my few still living good old Friends; but wherever you are my best Wishes attend you, being with sincere and great Esteem, Dear Sir, Your most obedient and most humble Servant
