Manager of the Pennsylvania Hospital. Member of the Pennsylvania Assembly (1756-61). Delegate to the Continental Congress (1777-79).

Born in St. Christopher, British West Indies. Married in 1761 to Mary Bostwick; nine children. Married in 1778 to Jane Milligan.
