I had the honer to write a Letter to you from Annapolis in Maryland, sometime in the beginning of the year 1784, and to enclose to your address a Memorial from the Trustees and Fellows of the College in this Town to be presented to the King of France. The object of the memorial was to obtain some marks of his royal faver and bounty to an infant Seminary of learning in a State well aspected to his Interest and connected by many ties to France.

I have the honer now to request, Sir, in behalf of the Corporation concerned, that you will be pleased to inform them whether thier memorial was ever presented to the King, and what was the result of the application? With every Sentiment of esteeme I have the honer to be your Excellencys most obedient and very humble Servant
