Mr. Pyne having communicated to me your Correspondence, since the date of my Letter to you, I have informed him that I had recommended to you to come up here to form the Basis of your Agreement, before he should risque his Health at this Season, when he is more liable than at any other to take a Cold, which, if it did not terminate his Days, might retard the perfect re-establishment of his Health, so as to defeat your mutual Wishes.
As in his Letters to you, he expressed his determination not to make a final Agreement before he visits your Farm, he is apprehensive the Proposal of your first coming to Princeton might not be agreable to you, & had therefore resolved, at all Events, to meet you at Burlington agreeable to your Appointment, & had asked me to accompany him. But being assured that you would put yourself to some Inconvenience, from Regard to his Health (which I believe would be very materially injured should he undertake the Journey at present) he has consented that I should inform you thereof, & repeat my Invitation to you, to come & stay a Day or two with me, that you may form the necessary Arrangements, previous to his Visiting the Farm, which he will do in your Company, on your return from hence, or at such Time as you may mutually fix.
It is very true that all your Arrangements must ultimately depend on Mr. Pynes approbation of the Farm when he visits it; & it may therefore be said, that he should see it before any Arrangements are made.—but should he approve of the Farm, ever so highly, on his visiting it, your Bargain must depend on certain Arrangements, not in the common Line of such Agreements—
Now as you are blessed with good Health, & great Activity; & a Disposition to render every thing Agreeable to him, I have undertaken that you will favour Us with the proposed Visit, & that you will, by next Mondays Post, write to him or to me to expect you up—In this Case, the being punctual to an Hour, or day will not be so very material, tho’ I recommend to you to make no great Delay, on acct. of the approaching Season—
It is possible each of you may place some Confidence in my Opinion—In that Case I shall be at hand, & happy to promote your agreement as I am confident it may be mutually pleasing & advantageous
I am your most obt. &c
