From A.-R.-J. Turgot
[c. February, 1778]

Mr. Roulhac, the son of the Lieutenant General, or first officer of the Limoges seneschalsy, went to Boston one year ago as representative to Messrs. Raimbaud and Basmarein, merchants in Bordeaux. He has travelled through the different ports of northern America to establish trade relations, and went to Charlestown where he intends to set up shop.

Mr. Turgot, who loves and respects the elder Mr. Roulhac, a very esteemed magistrate in Limoges, begs Mr. Franklin to kindly write some of his friends either in the Congress or highly placed individuals in Carolina to recommend the younger Roulhac to them in order to make his life pleasant in his new residence. Roulhac is only 26 years old and very well educated. His character inspires confidence in those whom he represents.

Another note.

Mr. Menedrieu de Barci, who served in an entirely satisfactory fashion under Mr. Turgot in the Limoges intendancy as a civil sous ingénieur, has decided after having several problems with the head engineer to sail to Boston where he hopes to use his talents either as an engineer or architect. Mr. Turgot would be much obliged to Mr. Franklin if he could also recommend this young man of true merit.
