From Barbeu-Dubourg
Feb. 12, 1778 entering into my 70th year

I am requested to ask you, my dear Master, what caused you to overlook your promise to dine yesterday the 11th at Mesdames the Princesses de Sapieha and de Sangusko, where we waited for you until three-fifteen; and to ask when you plan to make up for this, and console these charming ladies that you have disappointed.

Here is a book that M. Barrois sent me to give you. And two memoirs that Mademoiselle Basseporte asked me to give you, one for you and the other for M. de Chaumont.

M. Reignier asks as well for a note that you had promised him. M. Coder asks if you have read the one that he had addressed to you. And finally I should ask if you have had the leisure to read my papers; but I will limit myself to asking if you have any good news, and if you bring us war or peace? I have the honor of wishing you good day, and to reiterate the assurances of my tender and inviolable attachment
