From Jean-Baptiste Le Roy (unpublished)
Tuesday morning.

My illustrious doctor, I called on you yesterday and was sorry not to find you at home. From there, I continued on to Paris, returning too late to challenge you to a game of chess. M. Argand told me yesterday that M. De Montgolfier had learned that you wished to see an informal demonstration of his balloon in private. He asked me to inquire of you if this was truly the case, and if indeed it was, then what day would be most convenient for you. He suggested tomorrow when he heard that you were going to dine at M. Cadet de Vaux's, rue des Gravilliers, not far from rue de Montreuil. Please, my illustrious doctor, send me word of your intentions so that I can notify either M. De Montgolfier or M. Argand, who is supposed to send him a courier this morning.

Should you be home tonight, I intend to be compensated for the two days of missed opportunities by the pleasure of actually seeing you.

Addressed: to Mr / Mr Franklin
