From Ann Timothy (unpublished)
Charleston, Novr. 5th, 1785
Sir,

With the sincerest gratitude to a gracious providence, which has manifested its favourable regard to the United States by the preservation of your most valuable Life, I beg leave to present to you my most cordial congratulations on your safe return to that country to whose service you have been so long devoted, in the most honourable station, and with the happiest success, at the court of its august ally.

Sensible of the high esteem in which Mr. Timothy justly held the honour of your friendship, I endeavour to excite in my son an emulation of what is great and noble, while I charge him never to suffer his conduct to be unworthy of the illustrious name he bears. If the season had not been so far advanced, I would have sent him under the care of the honourable Docr. Ramsay, that he might have the honour of paying you his devotions. I am, Sir, your most obedient servant,

Ann Timothy
