Will excuse the liberty I take to confirm mine of 7th. March and to inform you of my resolution of becoming myself a partaker of American liberty and happiness. I arrived here two days ago in my way to Amsterdam and London, where propose to embark myself with a Clerk I take with me about August, to establish a mercantile house at Philadelphia under my own name. But tho’ I have a good fortune, which I take with me, and good connections in Europe, I shall think myself very happy to be favored with a recomendation or two to America and your good friends in Holland and Greatbrittain, which not only will greatly facilitate my establishment at Philadelphia, but be an encouragement to many of my Countrymen to follow me.
I don’t doubt, but by your friendly assistance I’ll be well received by Your constituents and not have occasion to repent of this step. And having fixed my stay at Amsterdam from 21st. of June to 5th July, hope to be there favored with your answer to the care of Micilman and Sons at that place, who can give you a satisfactory answer about my Caracter, family, and fortune. I remain with due regard Your Excellencys obedient servant
