From Jean-Baptiste Le Roy
[May 23, 1778]

I have the honor of sending you, Monsieur and dear colleague, the report on M. de la Blancherie's project proposal that we are to read today before the Academy. And since , as I explained to you in my Tuesday letter, which was lost, it is customary that all the committee members read it before it is read aloud to the Academy, and that those who cannot be present at the reading, sign it to show their approval, I am sending it so that you may fulfill the two conditions observed by the absent committee members for these reports.

Allow me, my dear doctor, to bring you to dinner tomorrow with Madame Le Roy, a physicist, l'Abbé le Noble, whom you will perhaps meet today and who understands very well the workings of magnets, particularly artificial magnets. Adieu, Monsieur and dear colleague. I am looking forward to having the honor of seeing you and dining with you tomorrow, for it has been a long time since I have spent more than brief moments with you

Le Roy

p.s. If you find M. Inghenhausen's [Ingenhousz's] observations on the discovery of M. Priestley regarding charcoal, you would give me pleasure by giving it to my servant with the signed report. I will read it today at the Academy. Adieu my illustrious colleague.
