To Jane Mecom (unpublished)
Philada. April 12. 1788
Dear Sister,

A whole severe Winter has now past without our having from one another how we have passed it. I hope you have done it comfortably. In the beginning of January I had a Fall on the Stone Steps leading into my Garden, which sprain’d my Wrist and right Arm up to the Shoulder. This disabled me long as to writing, it being but lately that I have recovered Strength enough in it to hold a Pen longer than to write my Name. I have been and continue pretty well in other respects, Thanks be to God for the same, and all his other Mercies.

The Bearer being an Inhabitant of Boston, and offering kindly his Service, I embrace the Opportunity of renewing our Correspondence with the Spring and hope soon to receive a Line from you, acquainting me with your Welfare. His Name is Pope, and he tells me his Family is originally from Salem, where I remember we formerly had an Aunt Pope. I heard her spoken of when I was a Child, but do not recollect having ever seen her. Do you know whether she left any Children? for if she did the Bearer is probably our Relation. I am as ever Your affectionate Brother

B F

This Family is all well, and present their Dutyful Respects.
