Capt. Wilson of the Catherine has two small boxes committed to his care, and directed to you one contains the Philosophical Transactions from the Royal Society; the other De Luc’s Hygrometer as a present from Mr. Nairne. I hope you will receive them both safe. I shall have another Hygrometer to forward to you by the next conveyance.
I hope you enjoy your health, and that you will have leisure and inclination to favor the World with more of your performances. While Philosophy is making hasty strides I long to prevail on you to collect many of your useful little papers that apply to common conduct in life for the lower and midling classes of life. I lament we have in our language a book on a sensible plan that goes to practical useful points adapted for the common bulk of mankind. I comfort myself however in the idea that a little good sense is gaining ground and hope in Time we shall have only to sow the seed to secure the harvest.
Our Ladies desire their kindest remembrances to you and yours. My mother has had a long illness but is now on the recovery, beleive me with great sincerity and respect Dear Sir Your most obedient humble Servant
