From Benjamin Franklin Bache
G[eneva] 30 May 1780
My dear grandpapa,

You cannot imagine how happy I was to receive your letter, because I did not have news from you for such a long time, and I was very worried about you. I will write you as precisely as I can, I was very happy to learn that Adams and his brother may come to Geneva, because that will help me a lot to keep up my English. The letters from my dear papa and mama made me very happy, because I hadn’t had news from them in such a long time; I will write to them with the next letter I send to you, and also to my dear brother, and I will send them a drawing; I am anxious to finish my studies to go and see them. I would very much like it if you and my family would take a trip to Geneva; I would also like it if Cockran came with Adams to stay with Mr. Marignac; I am doing very well here, dear grandpapa, and I will try hard to be more diligent in future; you asked me what English books I was studying—the little English books that you gave me. I am applying myself to my Latin and my other studies, to be able to see my country again soon; but I don’t think I’ll go before a long time if I am to complete my studies; please urge Cockran to come and stay in Geneva with me, that would make me so happy.

My dear grand papa I am, with deep respect, Your very humble and very obedient grandson

B Franklin B

Please tell Cockran that I will write to him next month. Mr. and Mrs. Marignac send their regards.
