From Anne-Louise Boivin d’Hardancourt Brillon de Jouy (unpublished)
16 March [1784]

Monsieur Gossec, who will give you this letter, my dear papa, and in whom I take much interest, has already had the honor of meeting you or your [grand]son last year, has just negotiated some papers which you found acceptable, and is planning to return to America shortly where he has already been employed. Before leaving, he wishes to have the honor of seeing you, of speaking with you and asking you for a few recommendations. I gave him hope that you would be kind enough to receive him and to do what you could for him. Farewell, my good papa and my good friend, the sun and the leaves are appearing and I shall soon be with you again and embrace you with all my heart. A thousand good thoughts from all of mine.
