As Circumstances at present seem favourable, the undersigned most respectfully takes the Liberty, of renewing his Solicitations, for your Excellencies Interest and Protection, in procuring for him the Place of Consul or Agent for the United States of America in the Town of Ostend.
Your Excellency is no doubt acquainted, that during the whole Course of the late War, the undersigned has exerted himself to the utmost of his power, in being of use to the Subjects of the United States, As well to those who were in want of his assistance, as in furnishing money to those Captains and Sailors, who were recommended to him by the Secret Agents in London and other places.
Your Excellency may fully rely, that the undersigned will fill this place with all the Integrity and Probity possible, and will think himself highly honoured should he be so happy as to obtain it. He possesses the Talent of being well acquainted with most of the modern languages, and is descended besides of one of the most eminent families of this Country.
Your Excellency may remember that the undersigned has had the honour of soliciting for this place some years ago And as the War is now at an End, and the Independance of America acknowledged, begs to renew his application which he entertains the most sanguine hopes will be successful.
Your Excellency will please to observe, that the undersigned, tho’ he has some dependence on the above Circumstances, yet he relies more particularly, on your Excellencies favour, and well known weight in affairs which regard the United States, on these he begs leave to repose his Hopes, and has the honour to subscribe himself Your Excellencies Most Devoted and Humble Servant
