An Officer in the British Army presents His Compliments to Doctr. Franklin and intreats he’d inform him if his Service would be acceptable to the United States of America. He has served in the following Employments: Aid de Camp to four Gen. Officers, Town Major, and Fort Major some Years; and Lieutenant Colonel to the Militia of a certain Province in America during the late War. The above Commissions, with the Character of the said Officer shall be shown to the Doctor if he approves of the following proposals. The Officer to receive a Regiment upon landing in America with the Rank of Colonel, and all Expenses of His passage for Himself and servants to be at the Expense of the United States. The said Officer on account of a Lawsuit, can not leave this Country before the Spring. He and General Gates were Aid de Camps together a long time and a strong Friendship still subsists. If the Doctor has an Opinion of Colonel Mercer, he will let him know who has the Honor of writing this Letter. The greatest secrecy is expected on the part of Doctor Franklin as Government leave nothing untried. A letter directed to F.N. to be left at the Posthouse till called for will come safe to the hands of Sir your most obedient and very humble servant
