From Benjamin Franklin Bache
6 May 1780
My dear grandpapa,

I would like very much to have your news, but I think that business is preventing you from writing to me, otherwise I would be very hurt, but at least I wish my cousin would give me your news and his, as well as my friend Cockran; I would also like to have news of my papa and mama. I am doing very well, I hope that you are too; I am doing everything I can to make you happy, I would love to see my entire family and all my friends again, and have my brother in Geneva with me; Madame Artaud, with whom I dined the other night, gave me news of you, and that made me very happy. Madame Cramer, who is always very kind to me, is very well; I am very comfortable at Monsieur de Marignac’s and he and Madame treat me like one of their children. I have the honor of being, with deep respect my dear grandpapa, your very humble and very obedient grandson,
