Lafayette to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
at the havre 14th September
My dear Sir

By a private opportunity I have only the time of telling you that Mr dorvillier’s coming into the harbour of Brest gives you all the time of staying in Paris—I myself intend going to A Country set Near the havre, where Mde de Lafayette is to join me, and she will on the 17th send for any letter your grand father or doctor Bancroft may have for me—I Beg, my dear Sir, you would give them Notice of it, and desire Mr Franklin to write me his sentiment on the affairs we have spoken of when you was yet at the havre—it seems the Empress of Russia wants to Negotiate a Reconciliation,—the expedition against England is yet thought of By the Ministry. But in my opinion that is a very doubtful event—When ever your coming here may be of any use to you, I shall take care that a timely notice be sent to Passy, and I have nothing for the present to Recommend you But patience. In Great haste I am Your affectionate

Lafayette
