Sir

Tho I have not the Pleasure of being personally known to you, yet from a general knowledge of your Character, I have ventur’d in preference to applying to any of my friends here for an Introduction to you to take this mode of recommending the Bearer Mr. Martin Savage to your Notice, he is a young Gentleman of good family which he has disoblig’d by the attachment he has always shown to the American Cause and I am willing to hope he may be rendered useful, his Inclination leads him to the Sea Service, and the protection he wishes you to afford him, is only a Letter of Recommendation to any Captain in the American Service either at Nantes or elsewhere in order to his being employ   in any decent Capacity for which he may be deem’d most proper. I beg leave to add that my motive for this Address is only my wishes to serve a deserving Young Man and at the same time shew my Attachment to the Cause of Liberty. I am with great Respect Sir Your most obedient Servant
