From Antoine-Alexis Cadet de Vaux (unpublished)
February 5, 1784
Monsieur,

Your chimney stove has been built; it is the second time, as the strong frost we had last month shattered the first one, despite the fire that was kept up in the workshop to dry it out.

Please, as you have had the kindness to promise us, choose a day to come to the brazier's, to see if the plans were well executed, and in order to rectify any mistakes before it is dry.

My brother, the Inspector General of bridges and highways, is bold enough to ask you to do him the honor of dining at his house that day; and I hope that you would please not deprive us of the satisfaction of having you visit the family again.

Allow me to propose to you either Monday the 9th or Wednesday the 11th of this month, or any other day next week, except Tuesday.

I would have the honor of coming to pick you up in Passy, on the day that you choose, at 11 o'clock, and from there return to dine at my brother's house. I am with deep respect, Monsieur, Your very humble and obedient servant
