From Pierre-Jean-Georges Cabanis (unpublished)
Auteuil Thursday [1779]
Monsieur,

I am advanced enough in English to understand your letter, but not enough to reply to you in that same language. Therefore I will tell you in French that Our Lady of Auteuil, Mr. L'Abbé de La Roche, and I, we accept your proposition for tomorrow's dinner. In finishing that sentence, I see myself almost obligated to retract a third of it: Our Lady of Auteuil adds that she doesn't promise definitively to come, since you obviously prefer Madame the Countess of Forbach to her.

I hope nevertheless that she will go prevent the revolts which you speak of, and which interest her more than you seem to believe.

I have the honor of being with the deepest respect, Mon sieur, Your very humble and obedient servant

Cabanis

to Mr. Franklin
