From American Philosophical Society: Bond and Mortgage

	[Philadelphia, November 20, 1787]
		Know all Men by these presents That the American Philosophical
		Society held at Philadelphia for promoting useful knowledge are
		held and firmly bound unto His Excellency Benjamin Franklin
		Esquire Doctor of Laws of the said City of Philadelphia in the sum
		of One thousand pounds in specie Gold and silver lawful Money of
		Pennsylvania to be paid to the said Benjamin Franklin his certain
		Attorney Executors Administrators or Assigns, To which payment
		well and truly to be made the said American Philosophical Society
		held at Philadelphia for promoting useful knowledge do bind
		themselves, and their successors firmly by these presents, dated
		the twentieth day of November, in the year of our Lord, one
		thousand seven hundred and eighty seven, and sealed with the seal
		of the said society.
	
		The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above
		bounden American Philosophical society held at Philadelphia for
		promoting useful knowledge, or their successors, or any of them,
		shall and do well and truly pay, or cause to be paid unto the
		named Benjamin Franklin his certain Attorney Executors
		Administrators or Assigns, the just sum of Five hundred pounds in
		specie Gold and Silver lawful Money of Pennsylvania on the
		Twenthieth day of November next with lawful Interest for the same,
		without any fraud, or further delay, then the above Obligation to
		be void, or else to be, and remain in full force and Virtue.

	This Indenture made the  day of November, in the year of our
	Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven, Between The
	American Philosophical Society held at Philadelphia for promoting
	useful knowledge of the one part And His Excellency Benjamin
	Franklin Esquire Doctor of Laws of the said City of Philadelphia,
	and state of Pennsylvania of the other part, Whereas the said
	American Philosophical Society held at Philadelphia for promoting
	useful knowledge by their certain Bond or Obligation bearing even
	date with these presents, stand bound unto the said Benjamin
	Franklin his Executors Administrators and Assigns in the sum of
	One thousand pounds in specie Gold and silver Lawful Money of
	Pennsylvania, conditions for the payment of the sum of Five
	hundred pounds like Money with Interest on the Twentieth day of
	November Next Now in order for the better and further securing the
	payment of the said sum of money and Interest on the day of
	payment mentioned in the said obligation and for and in
	consideration of the sum of five shillings Money aforesaid to the
	said American Philosophical Society held at Philadelphia for
	promoting useful knowledge paid by the said Benjamin Franklin, the
	said American Philosophical Society held at Philadelphia for
	promoting useful knowledge have granted bargained sold and
	confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain sell and confirm
	unto the said Benjamin Franklin his Heirs and Assigns All that
	certain Lot or piece of Ground, situate on the North side of Arch
	street between seventh and eighth streets from Delaware, in the
	said City of Philadelphia, containing in front, on Arch street
	aforesaid forty feet and in length or depth threee hundred and six
	feet, bounded on the East by Ground of David Rittenhouse (which
	Lot the said Society bought of Francis Hopkinson Esquire.)
	together with all and singular the ways Waters Water courses
	Liberties Privileges and Appurtenances.
	Also all and singular the Cellers or Ground floor and such other
	parts of the Building as may be rented by the said Philosophical
	Society of, or in part of a certain Brick Messuage or Hall erected
	on a piece of Ground part of the public Square on which the State
	House is built in the said City of Philadelphia, and which piece
	of Ground was granted to the said American Philosophical Society
	held at Philadelphia for promoting useful knowledge, by Acts of
	Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the purpose of
	erecting the said Hall or Building together with the Rents, Issues
	and profits due; and to be come due from or out of the said
	Cellers, or Ground Floor and such other parts of the said Building
	or Hall as may be rented by the said Society and the free use and
	possession thereof, And all the Estate Right Title Interest
	property claim and demand whatsoever of the said American
	Philosophical Society held at Philadelphia for promoting useful
	knowledge of into, or out of the said first described Lot of
	ground, and the said Cellars and other parts of the said Hall or
	Building and Premises, with the Appurtenances thereunto severally
	and respectively belonging To have and to hold the said first
	described Lot of Ground and the said Cellers and herein before
	described parts of the said Hall or Building with the
	Appurtenances, and the Rent issues and profits of the said
	Cellars, and herein before described parts of the said Hall or
	Building unto the said Benjamin Franklin his Heirs and Assigns to
	their only proper use benefit and behoof for ever provided always
	nevertheless that in case the said American Philosophical Society
	held at Philadelphia for promoting useful knowledge shall and do
	well and truly pay or cause to be paid to the said Benjamin
	Franklin his executors Administrators or Assigns the just and full
	sum of Five hundred pounds Lawful Money aforesaid with lawful
	Interest for the same ofn the Twentieth day of November which will
	be in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty
	eight, according to the conditions of the said herein recited
	Obligation, theat then, and in such case this Indenture shall be
	void, and of none effect any thing herein contained to the
	tontrary thereof not withstanding In Witness whereof the said
	American Philosophical Society held at hiladelphia for promoting
	useful knowledge, have caused the Seal of the said Society to be
	affixed, and these presents to be Witnessed by the Vice Presidents
	and secretaries of the said society.
		We the Undersignd Certify that the above Mortgage was Executed
		on the twentieth day of November One thousand Seven hundred &
		Eighty Seven Witness our hands 5th March 1791
