From the Comtesse d’Houdetot (unpublished)
Wednesday, 2 April 1783

Mr. de Crèvecoeur is upset to still be waiting, my dear Doctor, for a reply concerning the matter he discussed recently at your home. It is important that he receive it as he is responsible for reporting on it to Mr. de Castries, and he thought I might be able to hasten your reply. My high opinion of him and the great interest I take in him make it impossible for me to refuse his request, understanding very well the awkward position he would be in if he could not give Mr. de Castries an answer. He will be meeting on Friday with Mr. de Castries to discuss this matter as well as others of a private nature. I still hope, my dear Doctor, to have the pleasure of seeing you Thursday at eight. You know how much I cherish this appointment.

Could you please have the messenger bring me a muff that I left at your home?
