I hear that it has been proposed in Congress, to appoint Vice-Consuls in different Ports of France. If that should be the Case, I would request your remembring and mentioning to Congress Mr. Bondfield for Bourdeaux. If I thought my Recommendation might have any weight, it would be, that on many occasions during the War he render’d Service to the United States, and in all with great Readiness, Ability and Integrity, so that I not only think he would make a good Officer, but that he has some Claim to a Preference.
