Barbeu-Dubourg to the American Commissioners
Paris August 14 [1778]
Messieurs,

I take the liberty to send you M. de Vic, whose son, M. de Bois Bertrand, went to America around June or July 1776, at the recommendation of M. Penet, who let him hope for the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or even Colonel. We have since learned that upon arriving on the Continent his services were accepted, but that he was taken prisoner a few days afterwards, with General Lee.

Please listen favorably to M. de Vic who will inform you of the rest, and who counts on you to help his eldest son, whom he sacrificed to your country, to return there immediately, to shed his blood if the occasion arises, in order to affirm the liberty of the nation to which he wishes to remain forever attached. I have the honor of being with a respectful devotion, Messieurs, Your very humble and obedient servant

Dubourg
