I cannot, my dear sir, accompany the English ladies who are to have tea with you tomorrow in Passy. I will go to warn them today. As for next Wednesday, I am at their orders and yours.

Until Wednesday, therefore. Meanwhile, M. the abbé de Chalut sends you his greetings, and we both assure your esteemed grandfather of our friendship and respect for him.
