From Jean-Baptiste Le Roy (unpublished)
rue de Seine, March 23 [1783]

Allow me, my illustrious doctor, to profit from Mme. Le Roy's trip to Passy, in order to ask you a favor once again for the individual in Bayonne who wishes to have the honor of being named consul for Messieurs the Americans in that town; I had the honor of sending you his memoir, which had been strongly recommended to me, as I told you before, by a man to whom I am closely attached (M. le Comte d'Ornan[o]). I would have liked to have been able to accompany Mme. Le Roy to Passy but unfortunately I have an engagement which prevents me. I will tell you nothing for M. Martin; he will have someone better than me in his defense, since Mme. his wife is counting on having the honor of seeing you with Mme. Le Roy. She will bring a good number of copies of his memoir on import and export trade in the port of Sette, translated into English. Enclosed with this packet is a letter, my illustrious doctor; I would be obliged if you would please have it sent to its address in America.

I was sorry all this week not to have been able to go have lunch with you, as I had been planning to do, but I hope that next week will not go by similarly.

Please accept, my illustrious doctor, the sincere assurances of all the distinguished sentiments of attachment that I have devoted to you for life.

Le Roy
