I believe my brother by this post sends you bills for 1900 livres, got from you by my brother Samuel. If he has not done it, it shall be done.
This however is not the occasion of my writing. Our friend Jonathan Williams formerly remitted me a bill which did not prove good, & I never could lay hold upon the man. I find my brother has passed this bill in payment to him, that is Williams. Tell Jonathan that this was done without my knowledge, & that at his leisure I wish to hear what he remembers to have been settled between us on that subject.—How his affairs wound me! I am, my friend, in all conditions, ever yours most affy.
