William Vaughan to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
London August 8th. 1783
Sir

My last letters from my brother Samuel dated Cassel July 23 inform me that the good Dr: from Mr. Hodgson holding some money of his in his hands, had kept some of S.V. bills still by him to the amount of 1900 Livres and at the same time requested I would remit for the same. I have the pleasure to inclose you Agassir & Rougemonts bill on Denis Rougemont for L82.15.11 31 Exc. as the Drs. time is too much engaged I have addressed myself to you on the subject. I shod. be obliged to you for a line of acknowledgement, and should there be any loss in the Exchange I beg you will advise me as my brother would not easily forgive me that the Dr. should be the looser from his act of kindness to him the difference shall be immediately adjusted with Mr. Hodgson as also any little matters Samuel may have accidentally left unsettled—I beg you will present my best respects to the Dr: it will give him I know some pleasure to hear that the family were all well off the Lizard on the 9th. of July with a fair wind. Did not personal considerations keep me here I should be tempted to visit Paris and find my way to the land of promise in the Drs. suite. To see him in England, I despair of, I have however much satisfaction in possessing his Portrait that frequently reminds me of his advise “Seek & ye shall find.” I remain with respect Sir Your most obedient huml. Servant

W Vaughan

My brother who I shall see in a few days would have added his kind remembrances to the Corps diplomatique if he was apprized of my writing.
