Exchanges with Anne-Louise Boivin d’Hardancourt Brillon de Jouy: Six Letters circa July 27, 1778 (I)
[circa July 27, 1778] Thursday morning

You neglected me yesterday, my dear papa, and during that time I was attending to you, and your pleasures; I asked for the books you wanted, which I am now sending. The entire library of Mr. Du Bospin is at your service; he is one of my friends. Now, do you mean that I shall see you only Saturday? And you give up so easily a Wednesday with me? Then, after that, you will say, I love you furiously, I love you too much. I, my dear papa, love you not furiously, but very tenderly; not too much, but enough to feel sorry every time I could see you but do not. Now, which of us two loves more and better? You be the judge of that, my good friend, not as a man who has an interest in the affair, but as an equitable man, as Doctor Franklin.
