From Antoine-Alexis Cadet de Vaux
November 26, 1778
Monsieur le docteur,

As I understand the full value of your time, I have the honor of alerting you that it will suffice that you please be at the home of Mons. du Bourg, tomorrow Friday, between noon and one, instead of 11 o'clock, as we had agreed upon; as the event that is planned for that day is not so interesting that you need honor it with your presence from start to finish.

I want my chimney to succeed; and I don't doubt that your advice will decide the success of the experiment; but if my attempt is fruitless, I will be quite recompensed by the pleasure we will take in having you for a part of this day at our college and to give you a token of our admiration and respect.

I dare to beg you to bring along Monsieur your grandson.

I am, with the deepest respect, Monsieur, Your very humble and obedient servant

Cadet
