My Dear friend

I have just met with an opportunity of sending you this line. I have for some months expected to hear again from you, to put our correspondence into regular train. I recd a letter from you in December last. Yours was dated in October. I never received the newspapers which you mentioned as accompanying that letter. My answer to it was dated the 20th of December. Since that I have not had the pleasure of receiving any letter from you nor newspapers, nor journals of Congress, nor any kind of public papers. My object as I have always explained it to you is in general to keep nearly up with times with regard to informations of public facts. I shall be much obliged to you if you will be so good as to send me one in 3 months (suppose) a box of newspapers, and Congress journals directed to Philip Sansom Esqr Merchant London. I shall be very anxious to hear from you from time to time, but with regard to public points &c I think it would be less trouble to you, to put it in to the hands of some printer in Philadelphia, perhaps the person who prints the Congress journals, and to give him the commission; and then Mr. Sansom will pay him once a year. I wish to pay for them, because that will put the matter into a shape of a regular commission to a person in trade. If you will recommend me to some person of the proper description I will correspond with him myself.

I am very glad to hear (as I have occasionally) a good account of your health. I am very well; and for ever the friend of peace and good correspondence between our two countries. My Sister is in a very fair way of being restored to life and comfortable health. My brother well and all join in kindest remembrance to you. Pray remember to Mr. W T Franklin Mr. Williams Messrs. Jay Laurens Gen. Washington and all our diplomatic friends. I beg to hear from you or of you as often as possible. Your ever most affectionate friend

D Hartley
