Mr Lee presents his Compts. to Mr. Franklin & is much obligd to him for forwarding the Letter from Mr Lovell, which is of a very old date.
A Captain, who was taken by the English upon this Coast, is arrivd at Bordeaux. He left Hampton which is opposite to Portsmouth in Virginia on the 22d. of May. Three of the Enemy’s ships of war were lying at Norfolk when he passd; but he had heard nothing of those feats which have figurd so much in the London Gazette. Either he therefore must be uncommonly stupid, or the Enemy had not done any thing to alarm the Country. But it is plain they have not blockd up a single River, much less the whole Bay as they boasted. Mr. Franklin will be so good as to communicate this to his Grandfather. Paris July 22d. 1779
