From Jacques Brillon de Jouy
Sunday, November 15, 1778

Mr. Brillon sends his regards to Mr. Franklin; on behalf of his wife as well, who knows nothing about it and is only returning tomorrow, he sends him the l'Eripuit coelo fulmen sceptrumque tirannis. (the “He stole the thunder from heaven and the scepter from tyrants.”) A new composition in honor of Dr. Franklin who, luckily for us, also knows how to climb down from heaven to earth and from the scepter to the shepherd's crook.

Until tomorrow for tea.

To Monsieur / Monsieur Franklin / at Passy
