From Benjamin Franklin Bache (unpublished)
My dear grandpapa,

I received, through Mr. Griffiths, the letter from my cousin dated 18 September with the book that you were kind enough to send me. I will make good use of it and I will learn several of the passages you advised me to learn. I am sending you your portrait that I drew from the engraving that you sent me. Peace is not at hand, and this disturbs me greatly but I hope that when it happens you will come to Geneva as you promised me. It has been a very long time since I have had news from my parents, so I await it every day but in vain. You would make me very happy if you gave me the important news in your next letter (for in Geneva most of the news we learn is false), or through my cousin, to whom please give my regards.

I am My dear Grandpapa Your very humble and very obedient Grandson

Benjamin Franklin Bache
