I received some weeks ago the Letter you did me the honor to write me by Mr. Rendon together with a diploma for me as Member of the Philosophical Society of Philadelphia and packets for the Count of Campomanes and Dr. Miguel Flores which I put into their hands.

The inclosed Letters, which they left open for my perusal mark their high sense of the honorable testimony which the Society, of which your Excellency is President, has given of a Celebrity these Gentlemen justly merit. As I can have no title to claim it notice on similar pretentions, I must intreat you to make my most respectful and grateful acknowledgements to the Society and to Assure it that this flattering proof of its good opinion, excites in me an ardent desire in some degree to merit it, which I shall take every occasion to manifest, where my efforts can contribute to the useful purposes of its Institution. The Books mentioned in the inclosed Letters have been forwarded by me to Cadiz to wait there a safe Conveyance to the place of their desitnation. With these you will receive more particular Expressions of the Gratitude and respect with which I have the honor to be Your Excellencys Affectionate and Obliged Honorable Servant
