From Matthew Carey (unpublished)
Philadelphia April 20, 1786
Sir

Give me leave to present you with a Copy of the Debates and proceedings of the General Assembly of this State, on the subject of the Bank, which I have taken the liberty to dedicate to you.

They will, I am very apprehensive, be found somewhat defective. This has in a great measure arisen from extreme illness at the time as well of taking the Notes, as of transcribing the Copy for Press.

It is in this Country a maiden attempt. As such it claims indulgence. If it produces no other effect than stimulating some person better calculated for the purpose to undertake it hereafter, it will not be found without its uses.

I shall cut short this letter (which I hope you will not deem impertinent) with the Assurance that I am, Your much-obliged humble Servant

Mathew Carey

His Excellency Benjamin Franklin, President of the Commonwealth of / Pennsylvania, &c.
