Although I have been looking for an answer to a letter I wrote you at least six weeks ago, and have failed in my expectations, I will nevertheless take courage and address you again—. A Friend of mine who’s interest it is to know if a Gentleman, by the title of le Chevalier Milford did not get a Commission in the American Army from your Grandfather—in November 78—and shd. you have any tidings of him it will greatly relieve the person who has made the above inquiry of me—The Gentleman had a Commission in the Imperial Army— I hope, Dear Sir, you will pardon so troublesome a correspondent and I remain your very obt. humble Servant Richard Btt.
