Jonathan Nesbitt to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
L’Orient 17th: March 1784
Dear Sir—

I am duly honor’d with your Letter of the 10th. Inst: & yesterday forwarded the dispatches for Mr. Thomson by the Packet for New York.—I think it probable that I did not express myself Clearly in my last Letter—the Postage I meant is the expence of Franking the Letters here which go by the Packet which is no less than four Livres per ounce.—your dispatches by the February Packet Cost £61..15.. & those sent yesterday £72.—this is extremely high but we did dare to send them by Passengers, who are often Careless about the Letters Commited to their Charge.—When our advances amount to a Sum worth attending to we Shall take the Liberty to draw on Your grandfather (to whom I request you will present my most respectful Compliments) for them.—with the greatest respect & esteem I remain Dear Sir Your very humble Ser

Jonatn: Nesbitt

Addressed: A Son Excellence / Le Docteur Benjn: Franklin / Ministre Plenipotentiaire des Etats / Unis de lAmerique en son Hôtel / a Passy / pres Paris
