Dr sir

I feel myself greatly obliged by your kind Letter to my Nephew which he Shew me—As the Report of my being in England, must be maliciously intended to Injure my Character with my Friends & Country, you will Oblge me Still more if by any means you can trace out the Origin of it, that I may have it in my Power to Obtain that Justice which every honest man owes to himself—I have not been in England Since the Six of Octr. 1778. nor have I a wish ever to return there. On the contrary I am Sorry I did not leave it years before—my Inclinations & Duty both to my Country & my Family, turn all my thoughts, to America & in a Short time I Shall go to Spend my Future life in a Country where a Lone I can expect to enjoy Public & Domestic happiness—My best Compliments to your Grandfather & believe me to be Dr sr Your most Obedient & most humble Servant
