Elkanah Watson, Jr. to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
London. 19th. Apl. 1783
Dear Sir

I assure you I have lost no time in puting your order in execution & have the Satisfaction of Sending You by Mr. Arnous the bearer the articles as below amount to £ [blank space] Stl.—the Shoemaker has deciev’d me, however, I send you what is made & Shall forward the others per the 1st. opp. I am sorry to tell you I had some considerable difficulty to get any one to undertake the hkds.—however, They will now be well done but not so soon as you wish, as he is oblig’d to have them bleach’d first—depend upon my punctuality, & that I shall ever be happy to be charg’d with your orders in this City—and to convey you any information in my power—I am extreamly indebted for the Old cloaths—as they will afford me a great pleasure and amusement. I have contriv’d the affair admirably with Mrs. [Patience] Wright—the head I find perfect—the cloaths of course put it in my power to make the whole a compleat likeness—what will add, infinitely to make it curious. I intend with the assistance of some ingenious mechanic, to contrive some kind of Clock machinery in the body, so as to give it a movement, & at the Same time, with the right hand,—grind out electricity, upon an electrical machine I am in possession off—Believe me with every Sentiment of friendship & esteem Dr. Sr. Your Very Hl. S

Watson Jr.

As I could not git the taylors bill Shall Send it by the 1st. Opp.
