George Fox to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Nantes 15th. May 1783
My dear Temple

I arrived here the day before yesterday in the evening and upon enquiry find that Capt. Cunningham will not sail before the latter end of this month. As I presume that there is a probability of the definitive Treaty being finally settled before that time I take up my pen thus early to sollicit to be entrusted with the conveyance of it to America if no better oppertunity should offer. If your Grandfather or self should have any further commands to Philadelphia I beg most earnestly to be favored with them and assure you of every possible attention to them Travelling here hath entirely destroyed the paper which contained the Medals addressed to the Secretary for Foreign affairs & made some havock amongst my Linen—but I have repapered them (in number fifty) & hope that they will reach their address—if perchance you should have one of them to spare to a Friend I flatter myself that you will favor me with it. Shall I trouble you to mention to Mrs. Jay that the retention of Cunningham will give her an opportunity of honouring me with her commands. If Mr. Jay or Mr. Adams should wish to write & would address for me à la poste restante à Nantes they may be assured of my interest attention to their Letters. I beg ten thousand pardons for troubling you my dear Friend with these commissions but I flatter myself that you will excuse me & give me a line as soon as your occupations will permit. I am my dear Temple with most respectful compliments to your Grandfather Yours very sincerely

Geo Fox

p.s. I will beg you also to mention to Mr. Laurens to the time of my sailing as I should be happy to receive his commands.
